The ICC Men`s Champions Trophy 2025 has set new benchmarks in cricket viewership in India, eclipsing the ICC Men`s Cricket World Cup 2023 by an impressive 23% in TV ratings. Rohit Sharma and the Indian team emerged victorious, marking this tournament as India’s highest-rated multi-nation cricket event to date. The tournament amassed a staggering total watch time of approximately 250 billion minutes, with Star Sports contributing 137 billion minutes and JioHotstar adding another 110 billion minutes.

The grand finale, held on March 9 in Dubai, saw India face off against New Zealand, achieving peak concurrent viewership of 122 million on television and 61 million on JioHotstar. This final has now become the second highest-rated ODI in TV history outside of World Cup matches, attracting 230 million viewers and generating 53 billion minutes of watchtime across both television and digital platforms.

A standout moment of the tournament was the highly anticipated India-Pakistan clash during the league stage in Dubai, which became one of the most-watched ODIs in India. This match alone generated over 26 billion minutes of TV watchtime, surpassing the viewership of their previous encounter in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023. The Champions Trophy match achieved a television rating that was 10.8% higher, with 206 million viewers tuning in live.

ICC Chair Jay Shah expressed enthusiasm over the remarkable viewership figures, emphasizing cricket`s mass appeal in India and the effectiveness of the Champions Trophy marketing strategy. The record-breaking numbers can be attributed to JioStar`s extensive coverage, which made the tournament accessible to audiences nationwide in multiple languages. Matches were broadcast live on Star Sports and Sports 18 in various languages, while JioHotstar featured a record 16 feeds, including nine language options and specialized multi-cam and Indian Sign Language feeds.

Sanjog Gupta, CEO of Jio Star Sports, credited the success to their multi-platform sports destination, fan-focused storytelling, and advanced technological capabilities. India`s unbeaten campaign further ignited fan passion, driving the surge in viewership for the final. In related cricket news, Mohammed Siraj has commented on his exclusion from the Indian team during the Champions Trophy, stating his focus is now on the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has also announced four rule changes for IPL 2025, including a new Code of Conduct featuring a demerit points system.
