Jr. NBA & AFD Basketball Experience in Lagos

The Jr. NBA and Agence Française de Développement (AFD) Basketball Experience recently concluded its third season in Lagos, Nigeria. This initiative, which has been ongoing for the past three years, has significantly impacted the lives of over 40,000 youths from 54 schools in Lagos.

The programme includes basketball clinics and life-skills sessions, focusing on mental health, hygiene, and gender equality. A two-day symposium was held to discuss the core values of the programme and to conduct a physical education teachers’ workshop. This workshop aimed to enhance the capacity of physical education teachers and improve the learning experience for students.

Xavier Muron, AFD country director for Nigeria, emphasized the importance of sport in driving social and economic progress. Laurent Favier, general consul of France in Nigeria, highlighted the transformative power of sport in promoting inclusion, unity, and health across communities.

Gbemisola Abudu, vice president and head of NBA Nigeria, expressed gratitude to AFD for their support and reiterated the commitment to making basketball more accessible to Nigerian youths while emphasizing the importance of mental health, hygiene, and gender equity.
