Jr. NBA & AFD Basketball Experience in Lagos

The Jr. NBA and Agence Française de Développement (AFD) Basketball Experience recently concluded its third season in Lagos, Nigeria. This initiative has been instrumental in promoting physical and mental health, as well as social inclusion, among African youths.

Over the past three years, the program has reached more than 40,000 youths from 54 schools in Lagos through basketball clinics and life-skills sessions. The latest season included a two-day symposium that focused on the core values of the program, including mental health, hygiene, and gender equality. A physical education teachers’ workshop was also conducted to enhance the learning experience for students.

Xavier Muron, AFD country director for Nigeria, emphasized the role of sport in driving social and economic progress. Laurent Favier, general consul of France in Nigeria, highlighted the transformative power of sport in fostering inclusion, unity, and health across communities.

Gbemisola Abudu, vice president and head of NBA Nigeria, expressed gratitude to AFD for their support and reiterated the commitment to making basketball more accessible to Nigerian youths with a focus on mental health, hygiene, and gender equity.
