Riqui Puig Shines in MLS

Ricard `Riqui` Puig Martí, a Spanish professional footballer, has been making waves in Major League Soccer (MLS) with his impressive performances for LA Galaxy. Born on 13 August 1999, Puig is a product of La Masia, Barcelona's renowned youth academy, where he honed his skills before joining LA Galaxy in August 2022.

Puig's journey to MLS began with a free transfer to LA Galaxy, where he signed a 3.5-year contract with Targeted Allocation Money. He made his debut on 19 August 2022 as a substitute against Seattle Sounders FC, contributing to a 3–3 draw. His first MLS goal came on 31 August 2022, a strike from outside the box in the 89th minute against Toronto FC, securing a 2–2 draw.

In the 2022 MLS season, Puig positioned himself as a playmaker, averaging more than 75 passes per 90 minutes with a high rate of completion. Despite the Galaxy losing only once in their final ten regular season matches, they qualified for the 2022 MLS Cup Playoffs but were eliminated in the Western Conference Semifinals.

On 31 May 2024, Puig signed a new contract with the Galaxy, keeping him at the club until 2027. His continued success has drawn comparisons to Andrés Iniesta, highlighting his ability to direct the motion of the game through his great attacking prowess.
